ok back to the topic, I found it is interesting to share what Shutterstock is all about. Actually, we have few in the websites which have similar function like Shutterstock, but since my husband is now actively contributing for Shutterstock and I pun ade lah sikit-sikit paham pasal Shutterstock ni, why don't I share kan..
If we are referring to Wikipedia, Shutterstock is a microstock photography website which maintains a library of royalty-free stock images available by subscription. Visitors can browse the entire image library for free, and can license and download images online through a variety of subscription offers.
Ok, kalau dalam bahasa Melayu nyer, Shutterstock ni macam tempat kite perpustakaan y ang simpan gambar-gambar, ade orang yang letak gambar, dan ade orang yang beli gambar, orang letak gambar we called them as contributors while those who bought the pictures, we called them as buyers..
So how does it works.. as a contributor, you just submit your pictures, and the pictures can be anything on earth!! and thereafter, after your pictures have been approved by the administrator, your pictures are ready for sale :) Easy?? Yes and no..
ni tengah tunggu approval
Not so easy part is, those who are in Shutterstock I believe they are professional photographers or knowledgeable in photography, so in the case where you photos are ok-ok jer, potentially chances your photos will be rejected are higher. Ok, errr, not that to be proud of my husband, but somehow, his photos are quite amazing with the photography techniques and what not, still, sometimes his photos were rejected by them. Enough say, it may looks not as easy as it seems to get your photos approve by Shutterstock.
ni gambar kene reject
BUT... once your photos are approved!! then all you have to do is looking closely at your Downloads Statistics.. :)
Ok, there are few packages offered via Shutterstock and buyers can choose any of it. But as for the contributors, when a buyer download your photo, you will get a commission ranging from $0.25 to $28 per photo. And if you are lucky, or you maintain your own portfolio, insyaAllah perhaps any agency around the world would be your loyal customers :)..
ni gambar yang orang dah beli..
To me, it doesn't matter if it is $0.25 per picture because your buyers are around the world and Shutterstock itself is already popular for stock photos... and if any of the photos have been bought, another person can still buy the same photo.. so your photo tu tak kisah lah berape orang pun nak beli.. and in my husband's case, with $0.25 per photos, you can easily make few bucks bukan ringgit, but dollars per month. One of my hubby's friends dah buat duit sampai $27,000 ok... The minimum cash out payment is only $75 per month.
But of cos to achieve that, your have to work harder. Meaning to say, if your active photos currently are 200 photos, the percentage of people downloading your photos are around 10% - so dalam 20 orang kan.. 20 orang lebih kurang USD5 (considering USD0.25 per picture).. , so, macam my husband sekarang ni pun, dia tengah built up his own portfolios.. he just started at the end of october kot.. so baru lagi..
The drawback, hmm, by right, the price commensurate where the photos can be used.. kalau macam 25 sen of cos lah certain tempat je, u tak boleh letak kat billboard or newspapers or whatever.. buttttttt unfortunately, in certain countries (like Malaysia) this ethical issue is being ignored. so terpakselah u telan je bile tengok gambar you tu merata-rata..
